Exodus 20:12 12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
1. As I thought about the message this morning, I thought, what can I say about mothers that has not already been said many times before?
a. The answer is, I doubt seriously there is anything I can say that would be new to you or would be something you have not heard before.
2. There will be many messages delivered this morning about the virtuous and godly mother of Proverbs: ''Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her'' (Proverbs 31:10, 28).
3. No doubt the story of Jochebed will be repeated from many pulpits today. Jochebed was the mother of Moses. What a wonderful story of a mother's love and sacrifice for her son.
Jochebed had to give Moses to God and place him in an Ark and let him float away in the waters so that he could escape the Pharaoh. Then later Moses would become a great leader which led the Israelites out of bondage from Pharaoh. And the funny thing is that Moses was raised in the Pharaohs own palace.
1 Kings 3:16-28 tells a story about 2 mother living in the same house and each mother has an infant son. They came to Solomon after on of the babies had been smother and each claimed the remaining bow was theirs.
Solomon called for a sword and decided the best thing to do was to cut the baby boy in half and each mother would get half. One mother said to go ahead and cut the baby in half, however one of them said to not kill the baby, but let the baby live and give it to the other mother. Then Solomon knew that the child belong to the one Mother that was willing to give up her rights as the mother to save her child.
Mothers have a natural protection to their children.
I remember when I was a kid and a rat got out in our house in Irving.
Mom was always there through everything:
I got bit by a boxer dog I got shot with a 22 rifle
I broke my wrist while riding in a jeep after working on the education building at the Lighthouse.
Or when I was sick she always knew what I needed to make me feel better.
