Mark 4:3-8
Planting Season

 Mark 4:3-8

“Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow.

And it happened, as he sowed, that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds [a]of the air came and devoured it.

Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth.

But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away.

And some seed fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no [b]crop.

But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

What do seeds need to grow?

1.         Temperature

2.         Moisture

3.         Air

4.         Light   Seedlings need light to grow.

If they do not have light they will become very weak and will not produce.   Soil temperature for vegetable crop germination need to be correct for germination.

Melons            75-90

Onions             50-95

Peppers           65-95

Tomato's         70-95

Pumpkin          70-90

Some seeds might have developed a dormancy (or sleep) period.  In nature, staggering germination keeps some seedlings safe from possible burst of bad weather or herbivores that might eat them.

Some seeds might have a hard or thick see coat that can be harder for the seedling to break.

Jesus said is this parable that some seed would fall all bad ground and never produce and that some would.

Many times in our life we are planting seeds in people's heart.  Sometime that may be our husband or wife, or maybe our kids or relatives, or maybe it is friends or people we just met.  By planting seeds I mean the words and things that come out of your mouth.

Back at the beginning of this message I talked about the seed and what it needs to grow and the right temperature that it needs to grow.  When you are planting seeds the conditions need to be right in order for that seed to produce a seedling.

There is an old saying that says "you are what you eat."  Well you will see produce of what you plant and take care of.  If you don't put in the effort to get the ground ready, plant the seed at the right time and the right depth and then water it and make sure it has the proper amount of sun light then you will not get the production you expected.

 Galatians 6:7

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

 1 Peter 5:8

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

 Luke 6:44

For every tree is known by its own fruit.               You will be know by the fruit that you bear.  The things you say or do.
