Matthew 20:17-19
17 Now Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them,
18 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death,
19 and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.” As we look in these scriptures we see that Jesus is telling His disciples that He will be betrayed to the chief priest and the scribes; and will be condemned to death. And He also tells them that He will be crucified.
Now in the religious world for the majority, they consider that Jesus would have been Crucified and buried on Friday and arose on Sunday. So by scripture it begins to inform us that these scriptures may have happened by the past Wednesday or Thursday.
Although Christ already knew He would die, He still made sure that people knew his love. He was still in the street healing the sick, teaching, and even raising the dead.
How many people in this building knew if you would be put to death next Friday would do that. We probably would not. We would be to consumed with our self pity that we would not have the energy, joy or the happiness to do such things.
We also see here that Jesus has some fears of the pain that He would endure on the cross as well in 9 to 10 days.
Ask yourself this do you appreciate Jesus for the courage He had, when He knew what was going to be happening to Him in a week. He would endure a lot of pain and suffering.
This is the love that Jesus had for mankind. This is why one of my favorite songs it “How He Loves” by Crowder. He Love Us!
Jesus taught a mother and her two sons that greatness comes by serving.
Matthew 20:20-28
The mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him. For one son to sit on His right hand in heaven and the other son to sit on His left hand.
Jesus told them that they did not know what they ask. First they must drink from the from His cup, however that decision was not His to give.
We see here that even though He was headed to the cross that he took the time to sit and listen to Zebedee and the son’s.
We need to learn from Jesus to show love and patience. We may be in trouble or having difficulties in life. We may be having a really bad day, but we need to show the love and patience of Jesus.
Do you understand that you must, among other things, serve others to gain a place in Christ’s kingdom?
We see that even though Jesus was on His way to being crucified that He also took time to heal the 2 blind men.
Matthew 20:29-34
In these set of verses it talks about how to blind men called out to Jesus for mercy twice. And Jesus stopped and healed them so that they could see.
The crowd thought they were bothering Jesus. Even though Jesus was about to be crucified He still stopped to heal them.
Jesus did many miracles and taught a lot of people on the way to the cross. However, even though He knew He was on the way to the cross, He still loved and took the time to show His love and compassion for the people.
One of the last things that He did was to have communion with His disciples.
Luke 22:7-16
7 Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be killed.
8 And He sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.”
9 So they said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare?”
10 And He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house which he enters.
11 Then you shall say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’
12 Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready.”
13 So they went and found it just as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.
14 When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him.
15 Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;
16 for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”
17 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves;
18 for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
Communion
Luke 22:19
19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
Luke 22:20
20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.
