Judges 16:1-6
1 Now Samson went to Gaza and saw a harlot there, and went in to her.
2 When the Gazites were told, “Samson has come here!” they surrounded the place and lay in wait for him all night at the gate of the city. They were quiet all night, saying, “In the morning, when it is daylight, we will kill him.”
3 And Samson lay low till midnight; then he arose at midnight, took hold of the doors of the gate of the city and the two gateposts, pulled them up, bar and all, put them on his shoulders, and carried them to the top of the hill that faces Hebron.
4 Afterward it happened that he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.
5 And the lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “Entice him, and find out where his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and every one of us will give you eleven hundred pieces of silver.”
6 So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me where your great strength lies, and with what you may be bound to afflict you.”
We are going to talk today about Disobedience will bring you death.
Philistine Cities at that time were: Ashkelon Ashdod Gaza Ekron Gath
Samson in chapter 14 went to Timnah and got a wife that his parents had told him not to marry. Then when his wife was given away then he travel 40 miles south to Gaza to get in trouble with Delilah.
There are times when you and I think that we are going to only go so far and then we are going to stop. The problem is that we don't stop because our pride gets in the way and we go too far south.
Our pride tell us that we can handle the sin and we will only do a little bit however, we will go further than what we thought until we are in trouble.
In Galations 5:16 it says "Walk In the Spirit" however, instead we walk in the flesh. The flesh tells us it's ok, our pride tells us we can continue and stop when we want too. However the flesh will override the Spirit because we continue to feed the flesh and before you know it we are full blown in sin.
In Judge's we see Samson repeatedly getting himself in to trouble. He doesn't tell his parents about the lion he killed and he doesn't tell his parents about the honey that he got out of the Lion's carcass and brought to them to eayt. He doesn't live by his consecrated (set apart to the service of God) life and kills the 30 men to get the clothes when he is not supposed to be near the dead.
Do we not do the same today? We will start something and continue in it until it has overtaken us.
We need to learn to defend ourselves again Satan, against temptation. We fight back by quoting scripture when the temptations come our way.
Psalm 119:11
Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.
We need to learn the word of God so that we can use the word of God as a weapon.
Temptation tells us the lie that we can flirt with sin and our pride tells us that we will only go so far and then stop. Our pride is what gets in the way of God and gets us into trouble.
When Samson met Delilah he thought that she was so beautiful and he wanted her. When you play with the stinger then you will eventually get stung.
I have watch videos of people that thought the snake or the lions and tigers were the coolest pets to have and they lost their lives playing with the very pet that will kill them.
You and I have to be careful because our pride tells us that we can handle and control what we are doing. We meet that person at work that we think is a nice and great person and we continue to get closer to that person. Before you know those light conversations go to a more personal conversation to light flirtation to a more heave flirtation and the next thing you know you will be lying in the bed next to that person and the sin has been commited and it will be too late.
Back in Exodus God gave Moses the 10 commandments and commandment number 6 says "Thou shall not commit adultery" and number 9 says " 17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
Samson gets with Delilah and she start trying to get the secret to his strength. After 3 failed attempts she finally gets the answer and in the end he destroy the
Matthew 26:41
Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Today Satan has done everything he could to tempt you. Maybe you have already started a web of lust, lies, and deception and it is starting to go to far. It is time to bring it to Christ Jesus and let Him fight the battle against Satan.
Don't allow Pride and Temptation to destroy your life or your walk with God.
Walk In The Spirit and not the flesh.
