Acts 3:1-10
In The Name Of Jesus

Acts 3:1-10

Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.

And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple;

who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms.

And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.”

So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them.

Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”

And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God.

And all the people saw him walking and praising God.

10 Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

Peter and John would go to the temple every day to pray in the ninth hour which was about 3:00pm in the afternoon.

In verse 2 we see a lame man that had probably been this way since he was a child that had been placed in front of the temple to beg for money.  Little did he know that on this day that he would not long have to be carried there for money.

In verse 6 Peter says I don't have any money, but what I do have I give to you:  In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.

The name of Jesus is the key to answered prayers, when you pray to God in the name of Jesus, you grab God's attention.

Mark 16:17-18  Jesus says "In my name shall you cast out devils; they will speak with new tongues.

Today the devil is out in full force trying to destroy so many people.

The devil is working on destroying your mind and trying to drag you down.  He is working on destroying your family.

Today it is so easy to destroy a family for the devil. He has now created or perfect the easy way out with divorce.

Once he has destroyed your marriage and now that he has got you to divorce he has already succeeded at his plan.

But, in the name of Jesus the devil cannot destroy your household or your marriage.  You need to stand strong and pray in the name of Jesus for deliverance from the devil.

But what does it mean to pray in the name of Jesus? When we pray in Jesus' name

  1. We are giving up our name.

When I pray in Jesus' name I come boldly before God because of the power of his name. At that moment we are not praying as us, however we are praying in the name of Jesus.  He is the one that has giving us that authority.

  1. We identify with the person of Jesus Christ.

Jesus has literally given us his name. When I use that name, I am confessing that he is mine and that I am his. If I go in my name I will get absolutely nothing. But Jesus Christ has unlimited funds in heaven's bank, and he has granted me the privilege of going to the bank with his name on my checks.

  1. We pray in his authority.

We are like the child who picked up a policeman's hat, wandered out onto a busy intersection and began to direct traffic. The people in the cars followed the child's direction because they respected his position of authority. To pray in his name is to ask by his authority; and to ask by his authority is to ask in accordance to his will as revealed in his word.

  1. We submit to his will.

Jesus' authority rested with his submission to the Father, so our authority rests with our submission to him. To ask in his name is to ask according to his nature, and his nature is one of submission. This, by the way, is why prayers that ask for things contrary to the Word of God will never be answered.

  1. We are representing him and his interests here on earth.

It is much the same as the legal arrangement known as the power of attorney. In such matters one person may represent another in his absence. They act in their behalf. Jesus has given every believer unlimited and general power of attorney in all matters and with the right to use his name in every situation.

  1. We pray expectantly.

When we pray in Jesus' name, we may expect the answer in accord with the value of his name. So we can pray with great and excited expectation.

We must be like Peter and John and use the name of Jesus to Heal.

In the name of Jesus make my car start

In the name of Jesus you will not destroy my marriage

In the name of Jesus you will not cause my job to fail

In the name of Jesus I will be healed

In the name of Jesus he will protect you

In the name of Jesus he will bless your finance

Philippians 2:9-10

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,

The name Jesus that was announced to Joseph and Mary through the angels in Matthew 1:21 and Luke 1:31 means "Yahweh Saves" or "Yahweh is salvation."

Galatians 4:4-5

But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

The name of Jesus is important, because of it's meaning and because of whom it represents.  There is power and authority in the name of Jesus.

Acts 4:11-12

11 This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’

12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Salvation is the name of Jesus and salvation is found in no other name under heaven.  Forgiviness of sins is received through the name of Jesus.

Many people down through hundreds and thousands of years have been healed, delivered, and even saved from hell through the name of Jesus.
