Jeremiah 17:7-8
Grow In The Lord

Jeremiah 17:7-8

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
And whose hope is the Lord.
For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,
Which spreads out its roots by the river,
And will not [a]fear when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green,
And will not be anxious in the year of drought,
Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the Lord with all thy heart - We must trust the Lord Wholly and securely upon God's wisdom, power, and goodness, and upon his providence and promises, for direction and help in all our affairs and dangers.

We tend to place our trust more in the world and not in God.  God can help us along the way with things that try to tear us down and demolish us.  The world wants us to bow to their way of thinking and the ways that are not right according to the word of God.  However, in John 16:33 Jesus said "for I have overcome the world".

This means when we step out in faith knowing that God will take care of our supply or our situations, then that is exactly what he will do.  We must stand strong in the Lord.

When we are a baby our mother feed us milk to make us strong and to grow.  As we grow up we start graduating to more solid food and our body grows and gains strength.  The more we grow up the more strong we become.

It is the same with God, the more we pray and the more we have faith in Him the stronger we become and the more good we can do.

Isaiah 7:9

If you do not stand firm in your faith,
you will not stand at all.’”

Wait, you mean I must believe in God?

Don't forget that a part of you being forgiving by God is to have faith that He sent His Son to die upon that cross for you and I.

Trusting in God is one of things that we must develop and learn to do.  Have you ever seen the trick that people have done where when you are standing in a spot and there are people behind you ready to catch you and you have to trust them to actually catch you when you fall backward?

As we read in Isaiah If we do not have the faith and stand strong in Christ then we do not stand at all.

We must trust in God 100%.

Lean not to thine own understanding.  We should not think to accomplish his designs by the strength of our own understanding, without God's blessing.

Back to Jeremiah 17:7

And whose hope is the Lord.

HOPE - a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.

And whose desire is the Lord

And whose expectation is the Lord

And whose ambition is the Lord

Jeremiah 17:8

For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

A tree root can grow up to 20 feet deep.  If a tree root is deep in the ground it can withstand a very long drought sitting next to water, even if the water is dried up on the surface.  Water can remain very deep in the soil for much longer than out in the open, exposed to the sun.

Why does the tree not fear when the heat and drought comes?  Because it's root system goes deep enough that it is still reaching the nutrishes water that it needs to survive.

Ephesians 6:10-13

We need to build our strength with God by our everyday commitment to him.  By our prayer time with him.  We must stand strong for God no matter what our everyday life throws at us.  If we are strong in the Lord then he will give us the power to stand.
