Psalm 40:1-3
Praise & Worship

Psalm 40:1-3

40 I waited patiently for the Lord;
And He inclined to me,
And heard my cry.
He also brought me up out of a horrible pit,
Out of the miry clay,
And set my feet upon a rock,
And established my steps.
He has put a new song in my mouth—
Praise to our God;
Many will see it and fear,
And will trust in the Lord.

            David was so excited about the Lord and what he had brought David out of that he could not contain himself.  David wrote songs of praise and worship to the Lord.

            In the first scripture we find David saying that he waited patiently for the Lord.

            Many of us do not have the patients that we should have on God.  We are always in a hurry for God to do what we want or need right then.

             expect God to give us that money today and if it takes 3 days then we start getting discouraged and start doubting God.

            In verse 2 David says the he brought me up our of a horrible pit and that he set my feet upon a rock.

            Many of us have been set upon a rock many times but we keep climbing back down.

            I have seen many people that have come to know Christ and then weeks or months later they have already forgotten what the Lord has brought them out of and have already climbed back in.

            When my kids were little I remember placing him inside of a large open box and he would cry to get out because he was down inside the box.  But when they would get out of the box they would turn it on its side and crawl back in.

            We tend to look at the world and get closer to the people of the world and then we starting wanting to get out of the box or protection of Jesus Christ and back into the world.  Then when we are in the world and start having problem we are looking to get back in that box with Christ.

            Our praise is important to keep us with Christ.  You see, just like it says in Verse 3 He has put a new song in my mouth.

            There are 2 ways that our Praise & Worship reaches.

  1. Our Praise & Worship reaches to Heaven and Christ.

            When we praise and worship we reach to the heaven to show God our love for him.  It is and glorifying moment.  We are touching the hem of Christ garment.

            David says that the Lord put a new song in his mouth.

            Today when a new song comes out that touches us or that we for some reason love we have a tendency to listen to it over and over again.  It is a new song and a praise or worship that we send to heaven.

  1. Our Praise & Worship reaches the people around us.

            When we praise God about something that he has done to someone it is touching the spirit as well.

            You see Praise & Worship is for God's glory not just about us.

            When we talk to someone about the things that Christ has done for us then often times they will begin to see the change in our life and get interested about Christ.

Psalms 100:4

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.

We must be Thankful to the Lord for what he has done in our lives.

Psalm 150

150 Praise the Lord!

Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty firmament!

Praise Him for His mighty acts;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!

Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp!
Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with clashing cymbals!

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord!

            There is power in our Worship.

            The power comes when we worship God and what he has done then we are doing what God has created us for which is to worship Him.

            You were not created just to constantly ask God for everything as if he was a Genie in a bottle, but you were created to Worship Him.

            I love to get around someone and start talking about the things that God has done in my life.  Because, I get excited and often times they start getting excited or interest in the things that I have experienced.
