John 19:28-30
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!”
29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth.
30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
Today is a day that for us marks our Resurrection Sunday. The story will be told in some fashion across nearly ever Christian Church around the world.
Jesus was not a bad man, instead He went around trying to tell people about God, teaching them and healing the sick. However, the Pharisees saw him as a bad seed that would grow into someone that would become bigger than them.
He would first be betrayed by Judas.
Matthew 26:14-16
14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests
15 and said, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver.
16 So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him.
Then while Jesus is praying in the garden of Gethsemane His betrayer Judas shows up with a soldiers and greet Jesus with a kiss to mark him as Jesus.
Matthew 26:48-49
48 Now His betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him.” 49 Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him.
Then in Matthew 26:69-75 Peter another disciple denies knowing Jesus 3 times before the rooster crows.
As Jesus went through his trial with Pilate He already knew the outcome of what is happening. Jesus has a crown of thorns that is driven into His head and was beaten with blood gushing out of His back and out of the crown of His head.
Then He was nailed to a cross with His hands and His feet and hung to die. In Matthew it said this;
Matthew 27:37
And they put up over His head the accusation written against Him:
THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Matthew 27:50-56
50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.
51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split,
52 and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;
53 and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.
54 So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!”
55 And many women who followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to Him, were there looking on from afar,
56 among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.
Jesus has Victory of Death, Hell, and the Grave. Why? Because of Matthew 28:1-8.
Matthew 28:1-8
28 Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.
2 And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.
4 And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.
5 But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.
6 He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”
8 So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.
This is a testament of His victory over death and sin, offering hope and a new life to those who believe.
- Forgiveness of Sins
1 John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- Renewed Relationship with God
John 14:27-28
27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28 You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.
John 16:33
33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you [a]will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
- Promise of Eternal Life
John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
