1 Samuel 30 6-8
6 Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.
7 Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” And Abiathar brought the ephod to David.
8 So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?”
And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.”
In 1 Samuel 30 we find that while David was away the Amalekites came in to Ziklag and attached the city. They had taken David's wives and well as the rest of the people of Amalekites wives and children.
We must pay attention to these scriptures and notice that when we are not paying attention that this is when Satan comes in to destroy us and our family. It is when we are down or depressed. It is when so much is going on in our lives that we are overwhelmed. Times when our car breaks down and the A/C unit at our house breaks down. That the times we get attacked.
We see this here while David was out the enemy takes that opportunity to go in and destroy the city and take all of the spoil with them.
When we are spending our time doing things that are not of Christ then this is the time that Satan will come in to destroy us and take what we had with Christ. Satan will pick every opportunity to get into your home and destroy it.
Colossians 2:15
15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in the believers today by the power of the Holy Spirit and can empower Christians to fight and win in the spiritual battle. It is a Spiritual Warfare that we must fight.
Notice that as close as David was to God he still had a moment of breakdown. in 1 Samuel verse 4 David and the people broke down and wept. But, then instead of staying down David decided enough was enough.
If we look back a couple of chapters in 1 Samuel 28 we find were Saul feared the army of the Philistines who were great in number and ready to fight against Israel. After not receiving a quick answer from the Lord, Saul resorted to do something forbidden: He consulted with a witch to find out what to do.
Like Saul, we try to solve our problems by seeking other ways than God. Some people turn to anger, bitterness, food, or other distractions instead of turning it over to God. God is the only source of real strength to defeat what is bringing us down. Some people will even resort turning back to the sins of this world which is Satan.
Ephesians 6:10
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
David ends up drawing his strength from God and goes on to not only when the battle with the Amalekites that took everything, but he gets it all back.
If we stop eating food today in a week or less we will start getting very weak. When you are weak you are more likely to get sick. If you get sick then you will get to them point that you can no longer do the things you usually do. The food is what gives our body the nutruites to make our body strong and powerful.
If we stop going to church and serving God together in unity then we will get spiritually weak. The Bible says to assemble ourselves together and worship God. If we are not getting our spiritual food from Christ then we will be fed by the enemy which is Satan. Over time we are more likely to grow spiritually weak and we will fall prey to Satan. Church is important.
Our enemy knows our weakness as humans and will seek to exploit them to make us fall. Even at our best, we are weak and need God’s strength. God has given us armor and weapons, but their power comes from God. 2 Corinthians 10:4 says, “For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.” In God we have divine power to destroy strongholds, fight battles, and gain victory.
Cry out to him to fight for you and with you. You can’t do it on your own. Rely on God, put on your armor, pick up your sword, and fight.
It is not time to give up, but a time to fight if you want to make it to Heaven. We must stay on our knees and fight by talking to God and rebuking Satan.
