Matthew 8:23-27
23 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. 25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 So the men marveled, saying, [a]“Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
A sailor knows that a storm is not something to take lightly. He know that a storm even if it is small can easily take his ship and his crew to the bottom of the ocean.
During a single 20-minute thunderstorm, 125 million gallons of water can fall to the earth as rain.
The temperature of a lightning bolt is 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit - about five times as hot as the sun's surface.
A thunderstorm can produce more electricity in twenty minutes than a big city can consume in a week.
Tornadoes can travel over 60 miles per hour. The winds inside a tornado can circle over 200 miles per hour.
As a sailor, he know to look for the signs that there is a storm coming. He will get the latest on the storm from the weatherman or from a weather app or internet. If he know early enough he will try and go around the storm however if he is caught off guard by a storm he must endure the unforeseen storm and head straight through it for the best and quickest way to get to the other side.
When problems unforeseen come our way we have to forge our way through the problem. And like the sailors we sometimes have to look for that lighthouse to show us where the land is so we don't run a ground and loose our soul and our life.
God is our Lighthouse in the middle of our storm. Call out to him because he can lead you to peace and understanding.
Psalm 91:1-6
91 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”
3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the [a]fowler
And from the perilous pestilence.
4 He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and [b]buckler.
5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
Satan has no power over you if you walk in the covering of God. It does not matter what comes our way because God can calm the storm in our lives.
Most of you has an umbrella that you use when it rains. I have one and I also have a rain coat that protects me when it is raining. That is what God is to us when Satan is trying to attack us. God is our umbrella or rain coat, because he will protect us from what Satan is making us go through and he will lead us out to the other side.
