Luke 4:18
Freedom From Captivity

Luke 4:18

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

            Deliverance involves breaking free from depression, loneliness, anger, fear, sin's power, and hopelessness.  We move from the darkness into the light of God's grace through faith, prayer, and obedience to His word.

            Sin leads to captivity.  When you are in sin your are in bondage.

Key Aspects of Freedom from Captivity:

  1. Know Who The Deliverer Is:

            Who is our deliverer?  Jesus Christ is the only one who can deliver us from Satan and the darkness of sin.  He breaks every chain of emotional, spiritual, and physical chains.

            This is the one who died on a cross for you and I so that we can have a life when we leave this earth.  We all will go at some point and somehow, the question is not how, but are we really ready and where are we going?

            Jesus can deliver you from your drugs, adultery, alcohol, fear, depression, anger, porn or whatever your sin may be.

  1. What is the Captivity of Sin?:

            It is despair, fear, habitual sin, financial struggles, or being controlled by worldly circumstances.

            Captivity refers to the state of being confined, imprisoned, or restrained against one's will, preventing free movement.

Sometimes we become more controlled by what is going on in this world than God.  We listen sometime to more junk and news than we need to and we become obsessed with what is going on that we tend to forget that there is a God who can deliver us out of Egypt .

            Have you ever felt like your were imprisoned in your sin?  As if you could not get out of the thing that has you bound.  I know that I have felt like this before when I was in such a financial bind that I could not escape and did not know where to turn.

  1. The Path to Freedom:

            Faith in Christ:  We must first have the faith that Jesus Christ died on a cross for our sins and faith that He is still alive and can still deliver us today from our sins.

            Rejecting the Enemy:  We must reject and rebuke the enemy that is Satan through prayer and spiritual warfare.  We need to be on our knees in prayer to overcome what he brings to us.

            Living in Truth:  We must align our life with God's word.  This will help break the lies and sins that the Satan brings at us.

  1. Living in Freedom:

            To live in the freedom that Christ wants in our life is to stand firm in the grace that He gives us.  We must make a conscious decision to live a life directed by the Holy Spirit rather than by fear or past limitations.

Galatians 5:1

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

John 8:36

Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
