Genesis 3:1-5
3 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;
3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”
4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.
5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
I want to tell you for a moment about snakes. There is more than 3000 species of snakes in the world and more than 50 species in the United States.
I was watching a video not too long ago of a large snake in a tank. There was a lady that removed one side of the lid while a man was behind the camera recording her. The snake slowly raised above the aquarium side and stuck it's head out of the side of the tank about 6 to 8 inches. She backed up about a foot and looked at the snake.
At that moment the snake lunged at her and she threw up her hand in time for the snake to latch onto her hand and immediately start wrapping his body around her arm. The snake began to squeeze his victim very quickly and you could tell she was in pain. The snake got about four loops around her and the man came out from behind the camera to help her. He sat the phone down and started to try and uncoil the snake. It took some time for him to get even one loop off.
By this time the woman was in so much pain that she bent down grunting and then the snake wrapped the rest of his body around her leg and she could not straighten back up as the snake had her by the arm and the leg. Then the video went off, I assumed because the event was still happening and the video would have still been recording that it must have went from really bad to worst.
In our lives we need to know that Satan is waiting for that moment to strike. He is usually already watching and devising a plan to destroy us. He will sneak into your home and sleep in your house until that perfect moment.
Once Satan latches on he will then start to squeeze until you can't breathe no more. Then once you are without breath he will swallow you whole and your life will be his.
Ephesians 4:27 (NIV)
Do not give the devil a foothold.
We must be careful in our home not to allow Satan any influence in our home. Meaning we must be careful about what we hear, what we see, and what we feel.
Hear: Do not be listening to thing that will cause us destruction. Listening to things with bad language or evil ideas.
See: Be careful the things that we see such as the videos of evil like shooting someone, doing drugs, sexual sins, death, stealing, or many other sins that are not good for us.
Feel: Be careful about seeing things or hearing that make us discouraged, depressed, or angry.
James 4:7
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
We must have our whole heart giving to God and submit only unto Him.
Watch Your Actions: Keep unkind words, anger dishonesty, un-forgiveness away from your family.
Focus On God: Pray and read the Bible to keep your mind and home full of peace.
Stay Alert: Be wise about bad habits or harmful choices that can hurt your home life.
When we first moved into our new home we were all feeling like the devil was in the house. Once we all got there one of the first things we did was to pray over the whole house to declare God has complete rule of our home and Satan has no place.
You must not allow Satan to have a place or a foothold on anything in your life. In all things pray to God and allow God to fight your battles and keep Him in top place in your life.
God has the power to pick us up, sit us on higher ground and kick the devil to the curb.
