Isaiah 7:14
14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
Today we are going to talk about God that is well versed in keeping His promises.
How many people are here now knows that God is a promise keeper?
I heard this story the other day of a man that had went to a missions trip with a group of youth. On their way back home they stopped at a McDonalds to get something to eat and have a break. The Pastor was driving the bus and when he stopped he was so tired that he did not want to eat at first. Then as the kids piled off of the bus one of the last kids the pastor stopped him and handed him a $20 and said would you please bring me back a Happy Meal and get you something to eat and keep what is left over. The boy pause for a moment with a strange look and then exited the bus.
When he came back he handed the pastor his meal and stopped again with a strange look as if he wanted to say something, however he did not. Later when they arrived back home he stopped at the pastor and said so I had that strange look for a reason. I wanted to tell you that the last night of mission that they passed the offering plate and I felt God saying to me you give that $5 in your pocket and I will provide you lunch tomorrow on the way home. Then he said I gave it and then you not only bought my lunch but gave me extra money. God is a promise keeper.
When I read the Bible I see how many times that God kept His promises.
Genesis 37:5-8
5 Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more.
6 So he said to them, “Please hear this dream which I have dreamed:
7 There we were, binding sheaves in the field. Then behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and indeed your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my sheaf.”
8 And his brothers said to him, “Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you indeed have dominion over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.
This story is something that reminds me to stand strong and wait upon the Lord. Joseph has this dream of becoming someone that everyone will bow to him. Of course this made the brothers angry so they stripped him of the coat of many colors and threw him in a pit. Then they eventually sold him into slavery.
God gave Joseph the respect of Pharaoh by giving Joseph the interpretation of some dreams.
Genesis 41:39-41
39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you.
40 You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.”
41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.”
God gave Joseph the chance to rule all the land of Egypt und Pharaoh's rule.
If God has promised you that He would bring you through something then it will happen because, God is a Promise keeper.
One time Bro. Gibbs said that he had a lady come to him and was asking him about a message he had preached on giving to the Lord and the promises that He keeps. He said to her that he believes just like the Bible says if God tells you that he will take care of you then He will.
She said, my husband passed away and left me with $20,000 from an insurance policy. She said that God told me to give that $20,000 to the church. And he said he started to stutter and said are you sure that God told you to do that. She said to him God said in His word that He would keep His promises and I know He will and you just preached on that . So, she gave the $20,000.
Bro. Gibbs said that for some reason he was very concerned when he shouldn't have been. He said that about a month went by and he told his secretary to find the lady's number so he could call and check on her. When he got the number he gave her a call and asked how she was doing? She immediately said you are calling to see if God has supplied what he promised since I gave that money. He said well.....actually yes. She said nothing today, but God promised and He will provide.
He said that one day he was sitting in a court room and got and emergency text from this lady and it said please call me ASAP. So he asked for a break and went and called this lady. When he got on the phone she said Bro. Gibbs God promised and He delivered. I just got back from a meeting with a lawyer and found out that an Uncle that I never knew just passed away and left me $600,000 dollars.
God is a Promise Keeper!
Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
When my Dad was Assistant Pastor in Shady Shore God told him that the church would be receiving a large amount of money given to the church. about a month later the church received a check back from years of overpayment to the electric company for more than $16,000.
God is a Promise Keeper!
When God said that He would heal you, don't you doubt what God promised because, He is a Promise Keeper.
When God told you that He would give you that job. God is a Promise Keeper.
When God told you that He would supply you with groceries. God is a Promise Keeper.
God has a flawless track record.
God promised in Isaiah that He would send a savior for this world and in Matthew He did just that.
My God is a Promise Keeper!
