Matthew 22:37
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
In this scripture the Lord said to Love God. Well we know we should love God but, how?
Well first with my heart so how do I do that? Have you ever had a first love that you were head over heels for and you felt you would do anything for them. That is how we should be with God. We should love him so much that we would do whatever he ask. That is loving with all of your heart.
Then it says with all your soul. Your soul represents your breath or your very existence. Basically your spiritual being. So this means to know and love Him with every breath you take and to keep His commandments.
And last with all your mind. This is to spend daily time in the Word of God. To pray and talk to Him daily. To place your complete thoughts upon Him.
Matthew 14:22-33
22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away.
23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.
24 But the boat was now [b]in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.
26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! [d]It is I; do not be afraid.”
28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”
29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”
Here we see the disciples had gotten into the boat and went out to see while Jesus finished with the multitude and went up on the mountain to pray.
When He come down he began to take a stroll walking across the water to meet up with His disciples. At first they all think he is a ghost, but when He calls out to them and says "It is I" then they know Him and Peter is the one that asked Jesus to walk on the water and come to greet Him.
I want to talk to you so you can see some key things that happened.
- Direction - Peter had a direction that he wanted to take and that was Jesus. He see Jesus, hears Him, then asked Him if He would command Him to come. Jesus then said "Come" and Peter stepped out of the boat and began to walk on water to Jesus.
- Focus - Peter step's out of the boat and starts walking on water and everything was fine until Peter was distracted by the wind. He then started to lose his focus and sink.
- Fear - Then fear sets in and as he sinks He begins to call out for Jesus to help him.
- The Rescue - Then Peter gets his answer in the form of a hand when Jesus reaches out for him.
Jesus is your answer in the time of distraction by Satan.
- Direction - You start out with a direction when you get saved with a focus on Jesus, but something changed.
- Focus - When Satan comes along he begins to use all kinds of things to change your direction away from Jesus. He will start to remind you of how good your though that beer taste or that cigrette. He will remind you of that favorite song of the world or bring someone into your life that may be fun or entertaining.
- Fear - Then Satan will begin to make you have fear, anxiety, depression, or anger. One he has got you distracted and you lose focus then the fear steps in the only thing to save you is Jesus.
- The Rescue - The only answer that is and was always there is Jesus.
Do not allow Satan to drag you out of God's will. Keep your focus upon Jesus.
